Community Gardens
garden with us
The West End Resource Centre (WERC) takes pride in overseeing a network of more than 60 community garden plots strategically spread across three locations in the Daniel McIntyre/Saint Matthews areas.
Each of these gardens allows the community to get together through a shared love of plants and gardening, and enhances the beauty and utility of urban green spaces. At WERC, we are committed to cultivating a greener, healthier, and more vibrant community.

The West End Resource Centre (WERC) takes pride in overseeing a network of more than 60 community garden plots strategically spread across three locations in the Daniel McIntyre/Saint Matthews neighbourhoods.
Our mission is to provide these plots to community members and ensure essential utilities like water are readily available at each site.
General maintenance of these vibrant community gardens is made possible by our dedicated summer team led by the Environment and Sustainability Specialist. Their responsibilities include garbage collection, general weed management, ensuring water availability, and other site-specific tasks.
We currently have three community garden locations:
Orioles Community Garden: Located at Orioles Park on St. Matthews Avenue and Burnell Street, it features 40 raised garden boxes and on-site water facilities.
Lipton Community Garden: Situated at Lipton Tot Lot on 878 Lipton Street near Yarwood Avenue, it has 11 raised garden boxes and on-site water facilities.
Jacob Penner Park Community Garden: Found within Jacob Penner Park at 794 Victor Street, between Wellington and Notre Dame Avenues, it boasts 15 raised garden boxes and an on-site water facility.
At WERC, we are committed to cultivating a greener, healthier, and more vibrant community. Each of these gardens allows the community to get together through a shared love of plants and gardening, enhances the beauty and utility of our urban green spaces, and improves food security in our community.
