The applications for the 2026 DMSMRI Home Exterior Grant Program will open soon, keep an eye out on our website! The purpose of the DMSMRI Home Exterior Fix-up Grant Program is to improve a home's exterior quality, safety or appearance.

These grants are available to property owners located within the Daniel McIntyre and St. Matthews Neighbourhoods, (see the map below for our boundaries), who have not received this grant in the last five years (summer of 2022 to present).

They can be used for a wide variety of home exterior renovation projects, such as new windows or doors, roof repairs, replacing eaves, rebuilding front or back steps, or to construct or repair a fence. The grants cannot be used for projects inside the house, underground foundation repairs, or the maintenance or construction of a garage or shed.

DMSMRI will pay 75% of the cost of a repair project up to our maximum of $2,000 for a project of $2,700 or more. For landlords, we will pay 50% of the cost of a repair project up to our maximum of $2,000 for a project of $4,000 or more for a single-family home and $2,500 for a project of $5,000 or more on a multi-family dwelling.

To apply, you will need to fill out an application form.

Attached to that form we will require:

  • TWO quotes from contractors for the work you want to do. (If you are going to do the work yourself, we need TWO materials estimates from retailers.)

  • Proof of ownership of the house, which can be the last property assessment notice from the city showing your name and the address.

  • Before photos of the repairs you want to make.

Please note that your grant application must be approved prior to starting the work.

For approved projects: When the work is done, you will be required to submit to us a copy of the paid receipt and after photos. After a brief visual inspection by the DMSMRI Housing Coordinator, we will process your cheque. That process should take two to three weeks.

For additional information, please contact our Housing Grant Coordinator at call 204-202-6932 or Kanak-k@westendresourcecentre.org.
